each track adds 1 to itself and continues to grow and become a larger sum, the longer the track runs. Thus the first track will have length 1, the second will have length 2, the third will have length 3, and so on.

A **track table** is a track table with one less row. The difference between a track table and a track table with one less row is that the tracks of the track table are ordered by track number whereas the tracks of the track table with one less row are ordered by start time. A track table with one less row is called a **time-ordered track table**.

Example 1-1 defines a function, `tracke`, which produces the lengths of the tracks in a time-ordered track table. Notice that, unlike in other implementations of time-ordered track tables, we don't need to worry about whether the time is represented in seconds or milliseconds.
